The Nagpur City bus service was under the control of MSRTC until year 2007. From 2007 NMC has taken over the city bus responsibility.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation is implementing a multimode public transport project to provide inexpensive and rapid public transport to the people of Nagpur. The major component of which is the ongoing Nagpur Metro Project. Also the current bus transit system has a fleet size at 387 Diesel, buses and Tejaswini Electric Buses which are insufficient for the increasing needs of the people. Hence NMC intends to augment the service by increasing the number of standard buses along with addition of 40 Nos Electric Buses partially funded under DHI Fame II Scheme and partially by operator operating on Electricity and implementing a service based Gross Cost Contract (GCC). The new service aims at not only improving the existing public transport service but also at reducing the dependency on Non Renewable petroleum based fuels and reduction in air pollution levels in the city, through introduction of Electric Buses.
The major shift from old model is from revenue based model to service based model. No exclusive right to operator, all flexibility of increases the service level or fleet size shall remain with the NMC.
Role of M/s DRA Consultant Pvt. Ltd is to provide :-
1.Transaction Advisory Services and Pre-feasibility Services :-
For funding and O&M of Electric Buses for Nagpur City through DHI Fame II Scheme for Urban Transport Services.
2. Bid Process Management :–
Issue of Notice Inviting Tender, Preparation of RFP document, Evaluation of bid, Selection of Operator, Letter of Intent, Signing of Contract etc.,
3. Financial Study for NMC Transport department.
